INSURANCE MAPS
This past September, the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) sent us the new proposed Digital Flood Insurance Rate Map (DFIRM) panels for Wayne Township.  Please refer to the "Planning & Zoning" webpage for complete details and answers to questions you may have.

PSATS NEWS RELEASE
The Pennsylvania State Association of Township Supervisors (PSATS) is leading the fight against legislation that would eliminate Townships, Cities, and Boroughs.  They strongly oppose House Bill 2431, which was introduced in mid-April and would radically change the way Pennsylvanians are governed.

The legislation calls for a constitutional amendment to establish Pennsylvania's 67 counties as the basic level of government.  Under the plan, which would eliminate townships, cities, and boroughs, the counties would oversee all municipal operations, including roads, land use & zoning, sanitation, health & safety, as well as law enforcement.

PSATS NewsBulletin reports that in addition to House Bill 2431,  Senate Bill 1357 has been introduced to create a boundary commission to recommend changes to local government borders - including the ability to deem a municipality as "nonviable".  Under the bill, the commission could deem a municipality as "nonviable" based on a number of subjective criteria, including the "inablilty to provide adequately for the health, safety, & welfare of their residents" & objective criteria, such as declining population or a population of less than 400. 

DANGERS OF CELLPHONE USE WHILE DRIVING
An estimated 28% of all traffic crashes - or 1.6 million each year - are caused by drivers using cellphones.  Cell phone use has increased dramatically during the last 15 years.  Numerous studies have demonstrated how the use of cell phones & other wireless devices while driving pose a significant safety risk to motorists, their passengers & others on the road.  Scientific studies have shown that cell phone use while driving increases by 4 times the risk of being in a crash.  The National Safety Council (NSC) declares the month of June as national Safety Month.  They are encouraging everyone to help reverse this alarming trend!
