Wayne Township Officials

SUPERVISORS
The Board of Supervisors is the governing body of the Township. The Board is comprised of three members elected at large from the community to staggered six (6) year terms.

The Board is vested with the executive powers of the Township, and is responsible for approving the budget. The Board also appoints members to various committees and commissions. Please contact the Board if you are interested in a position on one of the committees.

The Board meets twice a month at the township building. Meetings for 2010 will be the 2nd & 4th Mondays each month, except December. If you have any questions about the meeting schedule, please contact the Township Secretary at 663-1663.

SECRETARY-TREASURER
The Secretary-Treasurer receives and pays out all Township monies by the direction of the Supervisors; preserves all Township records, keeps account of all receipts and expenditures, records the proceedings of the Board of Supervisors meetings, and prepares the budget. The Secretary serves as the Open Records Officer.

TAX COLLECTOR - REAL ESTATE
The Real Estate Tax Collector is elected for a four (4) year term. Office hours are listed on the tax bills, as well as applicable discounts and effective dates.

TAX COLLECTION
The 1% Earned Income Tax is normally withheld from your paycheck. If you have earned income you must file a local tax return by April 15th each year. This assures Wayne Township will receive the money that was paid to the municipality in which you work. Persons who are self-employed must also file a return by April 15th.

ZONING OFFICER
The Zoning Officer is responsible for enforcing the Wayne Township Zoning Ordinance. The officer reviews plans, inspects construction sites, and issues zoning permits.

EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT COORDINATOR
The Governor, upon the recommendation of the Supervisors, appoints the EMC. The EMC coordinates emergency operations for the prevention and minimization of injury and damage caused by a major emergency or disaster. Wayne Township is a member of the Conelway Emergency Management Agency.

ENGINEER
The Township Engineer is a registered professional engineer appointed by the Board of Supervisors to provide advice on the construction and maintenance of roads, sewers, bridges, culverts and other engineering work. He may prepare plans, specifications, and estimates on township projects; or answer questions submitted by the board of supervisors.

SOLICITOR
The Township Solicitor is an attorney licensed to practice law in Pennsylvania who directs and controls the legal matter of the township, and may provide an opinion to the Board of Supervisors upon any question of law. The solicitor may prepare or approve contracts, ordiances and other documents to which the township may be a party. In addition, the solicitor would prosecute actions brought by the township, as well as defend the township or its officers against any suits brought against the township.

AUDITORS
Each January, the Township Auditors meet to reconcile the accounts of all elected or appointed officials of the township for the imeediately preceding calendar year. The Auditors also set the compensation for any supervisor employed by the township.
