FISH HATCHERY GETTING NEW WATER LINES
Two of the primary goals of a $450,000 state-funded water line project now underway at the Corry State Fish Hatchery = Fresh Water + Healthy Fish. The hatchery produced 314,000 trout last year that were stocked into area freshwater streams.
The new 12-inch pipe will be replacing the 6-inch lines, providing the fish hatchery with a greater water flow. These new lines will also eliminate the need to use recirculated water at the fish hatchery.

FISH HATCHERY ANNEX POND BEING GROOMED FOR WALLEYE...
You will not find many fish in the Corry State Fish Hatchery Annex Pond, at this time. It was once used to raise Tiger Muskies and the 5-acre pond on Route 6 was drained 3 years ago. The annex pond is being brought back to life, however, by the PA Fish & Boat Commission - which manages the local fish hatchery.
After dredging the muck, mud and foliage that has accumulated in the pond's crater; come spring the pond will be fed by natural springs and refilled by water. The Annex Pond will then be used by the hatchery to produce Walleye, a popular sporting fish. Those fish than will be stocked in waterways, giving anglers a chance to catch the prized fish. This should make a big impact on walleye production in the state of Pennsylvania.

HISTORY OF CORRY FISH HATCHERY
Wayne Township's own Fish Hatchery was the second created in Pennsylvania (the first in eastern Pennsylvania lasted only a handful of years in the 1800's before the water source dried up). It was the first hatchery in western Pennsylvania, is the longest continuously operated hatchery in the state, and served as a prototype for the expansion of hatcheries across the Commonwealth. The fish hatchery is operated by the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission.
The Corry Fish Hatchery offers scheduled tours Monday-Friday 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., by calling Paul or Dan at (814)664-2122. You may visit www.fish.state.pa.us to gather more information about your local fish hatchery, as well as others in Pennsylvania.
The Roadside Historical Marker (on Route 6) to commemorate the Corry State Fish Hatchery's importance in state history was unveiled & dedicated in July-2010. The Corry Community Foundation and the Pennsylvania Fish & Boat Commission provided financial support for the PA Historical Marker.
Thanks go to "history buff" Steve Bishop, executive director of the Corry Higher Education Council, for originally submitting the application to the commission. Research of the Corry Fish Hatchery history was done by Steve Bishop, Jim Nelson, the Corry Area Historical Society & The PA Fish & Boat Commission.
